When Brittany was applying to veterinary school, she wasnโt just focused on getting acceptedโshe was also trying to figure out how to afford it.
Application fees, travel for interviews, and moving to a new state all went on credit cards. By the time she was in school, she had racked up over $12,000 in credit card debt.
โI felt like I was drowning,โ she said. โI was only making minimum payments, and the interest just kept adding up. I couldnโt save anything. I couldnโt even get close to paying it off.โ
Trying to Get Ahead Without a Safety Net
Brittany didnโt have help from family when it came to money. Growing up, her parents struggled with credit card debt and filed for bankruptcy. They couldnโt afford to save, take vacations, or teach her about finances.
โI feel like most people in vet school came from generational wealth. I didnโt,โ she said. โI was trying to do it all on my own.โ
Finding National Debt Relief
After graduating from vet school, Brittany was still facing a wall of debtโand she knew she needed help. She started researching online and found National Debt Relief.
โThe reviews were great. People were saying it worked. So I gave it a try,โ she said.
She didnโt talk to any other debt relief providers. For her, it was all about getting started and getting out.
A Program That Gave Her Control
Once Brittany enrolled, she began making monthly deposits into her program account. Those funds were then used to settle her debts.
โInstead of making minimum payments that didnโt go anywhere, I was actually paying off my debt,โ she said. โWhich was awesome, because once I graduated about school, I didnโt have any credit card debt.โ
When she accepted her first settlement, she was shocked at how much less she had to pay. โIt was thousands of dollars less than what I owed,โ she said.
Graduating From the Programโand From Vet School
Brittany called the feeling of graduating from the National Debt Relief program โfreeing.โ
โIt felt like years of debt were just gone,โ she said. โI could finally start saving and doing things I wanted to do.โ
She also appreciated the way the program kept her informed. She used the online portal to track every payment and settlement. And whenever a new settlement was reached, someone called her to explain the details.
โEveryone was upfront. The communication was great,โ she said.
Building a More Secure Future
Now that sheโs working full time as a veterinarian, Brittany is focused on paying down her student loans and building savings. Sheโs even thinking about opening a retirement account.
โIโve never been in a position to do that before,โ she said.
Sheโs also approaching credit with more caution and confidence. โIโm really careful now. I make sure to stay on top of things,โ she said.
Her Advice for Others
Brittany knows how hard it can be to ask for help, especially when it comes to debt. But she also knows how much it helped her.
โIf youโre only making minimum payments and not getting anywhere, donโt be ashamed,โ she said. โEverybody needs help sometimes. The National Debt Relief program really changed my life.โ
